With new ridership data that includes the three new downtown stations announced on November 25, 2016, CDPQ Infra is issuing a financial information note that presents projections and estimates of the expected costs and revenues of the REM project (Réseau électrique métropolitain). This note is part of the ongoing information process implemented by CDPQ Infra. 

CDPQ Infra has reviewed the BAPE (Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement) report on the REM (Réseau électrique métropolitain) project, made public on January 20, 2017. The review board’s report follows hearings held in August and September, 2016.

CDPQ Infra announced today a series of partnership that will allow future REM users to access stations through diverse and complementary means of transportation, thereby offering concrete and viable alternatives to single-passenger car use. Inspired by the MaaS (Mobility as a Service) movement, the integrated mobility options to be implemented around REM stations will include active transportation (BIXI, bicycle), car-sharing and carpooling services (car2go and Netlift), and electric taxis (Téo Taxi). Tailored to the needs of users and the context of each station, these new services will be added to the public transit networks currently being optimized and will result in easier and more enjoyable commutes in the Greater Montréal area.

In a series of articles published today in La Presse, columnist Francis Vailles juxtaposes unfounded data and assumptions to claim that the REM (Réseau électrique métropolitain) project will result in additional expenses for municipalities over and above the proportional rise in contributions attributable to increased ridership. These calculations mislead the public about an important project that residents hope to see completed as quickly as possible.

This is inaccurate.

The agreement marks a decisive step in the development of the REM project as a unified, integrated system, with Central Station as the intermodal hub linking four metropolitan branches.
