The REM de l'Est announcement last December marked the beginning of the detailed planning phase for the project, creating an opportunity to refine and improve the project. We will say it again: REM de l'Est is a work in progress.

The sustained cooperation between our teams, the competent authorities, civil society and the residents of the various communities served by the future project will allow its optimization.

Since the start of this year, our team has held more than 30 meetings and has had discussions with various community stakeholders each week to present the project, answer questions and have open discussions about each group's priorities and recommendations. The stakeholders we have met with all come from different backgrounds; we are carefully compiling notes from all of the subjects addressed, including concerns, challenges and requests, to ensure they are carefully considered as we move forward with designing this project.
This spring, it will be the citizens' turn to participate in the virtual meetings we are currently preparing.

From now on, you will have access to a summary of these meetings on our website. Every two weeks, you will be able to consult a summary of the topics discussed as well as the stakeholders met with. We will also be doing a monthly update to provide additional information.

Among the topics discussed, we were able to confirm that the integration of the REM de l’Est must be exemplary in terms of planning and architecture and inspired by the best practices in the world. We also answered questions about the advisory committee on urban and architectural integration, confirming that it will be independent and multidisciplinary. The vision of this committee is to ensure the best integration of the REM in the East, notably by participating in the development of the architectural concept that will be imposed on the consortiums responsible for carrying out the project. The detailed mandate and composition of the committee will be announced in the coming weeks.

Meeting with citizens: beginning this spring

We are approaching this extensive citizen consultation with open minds and positive attitudes, convinced that their constructive input will raise the project to the highest standards, ensuring it becomes a real source of pride for the Greater Montréal area.

We are preparing for the citizen consultations that will be held beginning next April. However, due to the pandemic, those consultations will be held virtually. Details will be posted on our website and social media. Make sure you stay informed by subscribing to our newsletter.
